Choosing the Best Breast Pump

Feeding your baby with breast milk is one of the best things you can do as a mother of a baby. This type of milk can’t be replaced by other alternatives, even the most expensive formulas can’t compete with the benefits of mother’s milk.  Besides giving your baby all the nutrients she needs to grow and develop, this type of milk offers immune boosting capabilities that keep your baby protected for years.

We see, however, that due to the inconveniences of the modern World, and busy lives, some moms don’t have the time to breastfeed their babies at all times. Working moms need to be away from home for long hours, and even moms who stay at home most of the time sometimes need to go out, so they can’t feed their babies properly.  The solution?  Use a breast pump.  These products are great aids to help you pump milk and your baby get all the benefits of your milk.

Many women seem to be wondering what the top breast pump in the market is.  However to choose one, you need to determine which type of use you are going to give the pump.  To help you in this task, I will share some info about the two types of pumps you can find.

On one hand we can use an electric breast pump.  These are pumps that work with a motor that works on batteries or with direct current, and they help you pump milk automatically.  You can pump one milk or both at the same time, without any effort at all. Using a breastpump bra, you can even have both hands free to take care of other things.  They are perfect for moms who work and need to pump milk several times throughout the day.  The best electric breast pump options nowadays are able to imitate the way your baby sucks milk, which stimulates let down and makes the experience more comfortable.

The other types of pumps are the manual ones.  They are small, portable and noiseless.  But they are recommended only for sporadic use. If you are going to use a manual pump often, I’m sure you’ll end up tired and perhaps with more discomfort than when using an electric one.  Still, I think every mom should have one of these pumps, as they can be extremely helpful on some occasions.  I have use this pump whenever I had to go out on a meeting or any similar reason.  Just pump some milk before you go out and your baby will be well taken care of (of course, you have to leave her in the meantime with someone you can fully trust!).

Having a breast pump means also learning how to take good care of it, because a badly handled pump can lead to viruses and infections for both you and your baby.  Take special care in avoiding milk form getting into tubes and other small parts of the pump, and always clean it thoroughly, following the instructions found in your manual.
